President's Day

Here are some of the activities we did this week to celebrate President's Day!

After reading many books about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln we filled in anchor charts about what we have learned about these famous presidents.

Then we compared George Washington and Abraham Lincoln using a Venn Diagram.

Writing Prompt: If I Were President...
Using each student's face picture, they added a hat and cotton balls to look like a president.

I also used this week to talk about The United States Flag!
Here are the anchor charts I made to discuss flag facts and rules.

Heart Health

This week to go along with Valentine's Day we learned about our hearts and how to keep them healthy! The Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation has a website that teaches kids about their heart’s and how to keep them healthy. This website has fun interactive activities for the kids to do as well as great information. To visit this website click HERE.

After going through the information and activities found on this website, I had my students do the True and False Heart Health Statement sort.

Valentine's Day Student Gifts

This year my students walked in on Valentine's Day and had these treats on their desk! They had a bag of jelly beans and homemade Play-doh in the shape of a heart. The kids loved their treats and it didn't break the bank. LOL

Here is the recipe I used for the homemade Play-doh:

*I doubled the recipe*

1 cup Salt

2 cups Flour

2 Tablespoons Cream of Tartar

2 Tablespoons Oil

2 cups Water

Red Food Coloring

2 Tablespoons of Cinnamon (for the smell)

I also sprinkled glitter into the mixture for a fun, sparkly twist!

Directions: Combine ingredients in a saucepan. Heat gently, stirring all the time. When the dough has a good, tough consistency, take it off the heat and allow to cool. When cool, break the dough into individual balls. Use a heart shaped cookie cutter and take the dough and form it into the cookie cutter.

Dental Health

Here are just some of the activities we will be doing for our dental health unit!

Here is a fun poem!

This graph kicked off our unit!

I made these teeth anchor charts to discuss facts about dental health.

After going through the dental health anchor charts, the students will sort these True and False statements onto the correct toothbrush.
